Brussels, January 28, 2025 – GEOSAT was honored by ESA and DG Defis during a special side event at the 17th European Space Conference for its pivotal role in the Optical Very High Resolution (VHR) coverage over Europe 2024. This initiative, part of the Copernicus Program, delivered a comprehensive dataset of over six million square kilometers of very high-resolution satellite imagery across Europe, marking a milestone in Earth Observation.

The Optical VHR coverage, conducted in collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space, is the first time such coverage has been completed solely by European companies. This achievement underscores Europe’s technological leadership and its commitment to fostering autonomy in the global space industry.

The event brought together key players in the space industry, with representatives from both optical and radar domains stepping onto the stage to receive certificates of recognition. GEOSAT (Portugal) and Airbus Defence and Space (France) were acknowledged for their collaboration in delivering the VHR coverage over Europe, exemplifying the strength of European partnerships in advancing Earth Observation capabilities.

In addition to achievements in the optical domain, the recognition event celebrated contributions from radar domain leaders such as HISDESAT (Spain), ICEYE (Finland), Airbus Defence and Space GmbH (Germany), and e-GEOS (Italy). Each company received acknowledgment for their respective roles in advancing the CCM program, further solidifying Europe’s position as a global space leader.
